Venous Leg Ulcers
Since the 1990’s, research has shown that the real root cause of a leg ulcer appearing is abnormal blood supply to the skin. Occasionally it is blood supply taking nutrients to the skin. However, in most cases, this is due to varicose veins or “hidden varicose veins”. In these cases, the veins are failing to take the venous blood away from the leg. This causes inflammation and skin damage,
That is why we follow The Whiteley Protocol® In the protocol, we find the underlying cause of the leg ulcer using high-resolution duplex ultrasound. This is done by a The Whiteley Clinic trained vascular technologist. Once the underlying cause has been found, the protocol then points out the best route to curing the problem.

Thank you for the information! I had a superficial thrombophlebitis of the the right iliac vein in my groin. A lot of pain there. My doctor thought it was an hernia which caused me to have this problem go untreated for a year. I finally went for an ultrasound and got the above mentioned diagnosis, went on Xarelto blood thinners and the clot has re-canalised. I have these reactive veins that remain that get sore especially when having a bowel movement and exercising. II have been put on Aspirin Ecotrin. Do you think these reactive veins will ever heal?

I have May-Thurner. Just diagnosed last year after 6 months of not being able to walk due to excruciating pain and leg swelling. My vein was completely closed. Shortly after surgery to put a stent in, I noticed a small bump under the incision site. It's not scar tissue. It doesn't feel like it and it doesn't break up and go away when I massage it. It gets worse. It has now been a year and the bump has grown and spread up and down in a line and is very very tender and very very painful. I have been wearing loose baggy clothing to keep pressure off of it, because any pressure causes excruciating pain in that spot, the surrounding area, and down my left leg. I'm at the point where I can't go any baggier without just being naked. I have been dealing with a lot of swelling and some discoloration in my left leg. I have to keep my left leg propped up 24/7 and within the past month, I have been limping horribly and not quite bending my knee anymore just like with my May Thurner before my stent. My original doctor and nurses blew me off and refused to do anything. Other doctors I have seen either say it's nothing or do tests and say they don't see anything. My current doctor literally wrote in her notes on my file that, "I can barely appreciate her focusing on this bump." Like.....I am in so much pain and it's getting worse and worse. What started as a small bump with little pain is now big and spread up and down by my groin area and is causing me so much misery. Idk what it is or what to do. I came across pelvic congestion syndrome and I'm wondering if that may possibly be it, but I'm not sure.

I don't know. I have a similar thing, but I don't feel it is something not to worry about. Sometimes, my ankles are in such a pain, but if I lie down for 15 minites, blood flows.and pain goes away. Interestingly, when I wake up and stand up, go to the kitchen, I get the same painful feeling and need another 15 minutes rest break after 1 hour being awake. and then it gets better during the day before evening. Please help. Healthcare doesn't work in Ottawa ;-(

I've had a clot (both types) and the superficial one with no symptoms except the feeling of a cramp (size of a 5-10-cent piece) and some heaviness, in three spots, the calf, and now behind the knee and back of the thigh. Great job. Is it possible for the compression caused by May-Thurner syndrome to occur more when someone is seated than standing or lying flat? My left leg swells considerably more when I am seated at my desk than standing or lying flat. All other tests have been done except the intravenous ultrasound and when I ask about being seated for verification, I am looked at like a quack.

One thing that MAJORLY overlooked is your diet your body will not heal wounds quickly if you are smoking drinking or have a diet full of processed foods.. I advise a plant based diet full of fruit and vegetables plus fasting will speed the process up so much it’s unbelievable… since my diet has changed to mainly fruits and vegetables it’s healing very quickly now

I was diagnosed with thrombophlebitis about 6 weeks ago. There's a hardish nodule and swollen varicose vein in my calf just under the knee. However, no redness or heat or sign of inflammation, just a dull ache and uncomfortable tingly feeling lower down in the calf and into the toes. It's neither better nor worse after 6 weeks. No treatment recommended but was told blood thinners and compression stockings may be needed if it doesn’t resolve. Should I be seen again? It doesn’t look much like the pictures shown here.
